Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) (Electronics)
I spent many weeks reviewing the REBEL XS vs it's several ten MP adversaries,
I even checked it against the ultra zooms as I wished the convenience of video yet, however too several delicacies stood out with this camera and therefore i made a decision upon it.
I bought the rebel XS and once days of dirt testing this camera I've found it a good looking expertise.
Now i am an expert videographer connected to a tv station in Trinidad &
Tobago, my purpose for this camera was the requirement for a fast sharp still shot camera that will be spectacular beneath low light-weight and still capture spectacular portrait shots to be used for my web site and for big prints. I did not wish to shell out over a $1000. US for a camera body.
What is tagged by Canon is true: the complete auto mode is actually correct and provides glorious shots continually, it makes photography very easy for a beginner or intermediate. The portrait mode is not blurry, pictures are clean, nicely toned, glorious in quality for big size prints. The P ( program mode) i favor alot initially as a result of this mode sets exposure therefore nicely I found it addictive. I shot alot of night pics of cars on a freeway, with bright, sharp, spirited colors rising. Night pics at 800 iso had terribly terribly little noise, and that i mean i used to be looking the pics on 15" monitors for reason to complain, however was extremely impressed.
The auto focus is de facto fast. Th XS comes with "only" a seven purpose auto focus system compared to the XSi nine purpose, forgive me once I say there is also no want for one more a pair of points when the camera focusses therefore fast and therefore accurately. I actually have not gotten a soft image when shot with the auto focus operating.
Now for those purpose and shoot cams that boast regarding "face detection"....5 faces...6,7, some even fifteen. I even have a ten mp ultra zoom, this merely matters very little if not in the slightest degree, if the focussing ability of the camera is poor or average, and given the "average lens" quality they are product of.
I have learnt clearly that a ten MP ultra zoom merely cannot compare to a ten MP D SLR...chalk and cheese.
I additionally bought the Tamron 70mm - 300mm, F4-5.6 telephoto/ macro lens. No vignetting at either finish of the lens.
Auto iso is just magnificent, haven't taken an endeavor where the camera over estimated or underestimated the iso levels.
The Manual mode of this camera is that the most spectacular on behalf of me. The rebel XS via varied magazine testing has come back up faster than it's different ten MP rivals when it involves fps shooting, and burst pictures.
It extremely will shoot three fps consistently, it shoots a pair of.3 fps in low light-weight, worst case is over one fps all at ten MP quality.
I haven't used a lower quality since, given I bought a Transcend 8GB SDHC card storage isn't a problem.
Most of my shooting has been at the hours of darkness, for the small worn out daylight, it's been superb. colors are terribly bright, depth of field terribly terribly nice. Macros works well. Image optimizer merely shocked life out of me. i used to be in a very shaded space and while not flash it extremely improves the topic while not over blowing the background, stuff that's nearly not possible on purpose and shoot cams.
Stuff I disagree with from the "reviews" : 1- "The camera feels cheaply built"....simply wrong, nothing is shabby, buttons are literally simple to press, does not have low cost clicks to them, the lens mount features a secure feel to it, and a correct snap when it's set.
Battery compartment is definitely secure. Your finger should intricately open the door for entry, will not be an accident issue. Rubber door at a.v. ports snap in well. Rubber grip is firm enough, swish enough to not irritate your hands.
2- " XS is "overpriced" compared to the XSi.....Xsi shoots slower than the XS, XSi image quality is equal to the XS even supposing the XSi is twelve MP. The XSi is also the 3" LCD and many different upgrades, however these upgrades do not add up when the image is taken and therefore the quality of each cameras match alike. i'll have chosen the XSI if I wished to pay the additional $150. u.s except for the lesser worth, i am nevertheless to regret.
3- "The XS "only features a a pair of.5" LCD compared to a few of it's rivals having 3" LCD's". I will see each issue clearly with this screen, even with Histograms, and grids onscreen. If LCD's get a lot of larger then canon may have to put in a tv tuner yet....the 2.5" is quite sufficient.
4- "The XS does not have SPOT METERING compared to the XSi, therefore this is often a giant issue"- haven't encountered a reason to complain nevertheless, once five hundred night shots and two hundred day shots.
